6.2 BTEC Performing Arts students are our Stars this week. The group staged a cabaret evening at the Perton Community Centre and entertained their 120 guests with a show that they had written and produced themselves. This was based on a leisure centre using Motown music as a theme. At the event which raised approximately £1,000 for Relate guests were also provided with a meal prepared by our Hospitality students.
The Performing Arts students have also been successful in achieving places at leading Stage Schools (such as the Laine Theatre School, Urdang Academy and the Academy for Live and Recorded Arts) where there are at least 1500 applicants for about 30 places on these type of courses and only around ten schools to choose from. Entry is by a tough audition and students have to prepare solo pieces in acting, singing and dance as well as taking part in dance classes and acting workshops. This year, some of our students have even been granted scholarship places with Ben Anderson being awarded a fully funded place at the Millennium for a three year Musical Theatre course.
