Thomas Telford School students attended a special Remembrance Day Service at Lawley Parish Church on 11 November and laid a wreath to commemorate the War Dead.

During the past few weeks in particular, Year 8 students have been thinking hard about those who gave their lives during the First and Second World Wars. In October half term, they went to France and Belgium to visit some of the World War I Battlefields to help increase their understanding of the nature of the fighting during the most devastating conflict of the 20th Century. They also went to the largest Commonwealth war graves cemetery in the world.

History Teacher, Mr Martyn Hale said: "The Battlefields tour was a tremendous experience for the youngsters that will remain with them forever. Since our return, we have been involved in activities like trying out gas masks and helmets, drill exercises and even bayonet practice. These events added to their more traditional academic study of this period in History and will give them a wider understanding of their forebears' lives."
