Star Student
This week’s Star Student is Ashleigh Miles who attended the European Jujitsu Championships held in Cheltenham in October. Ashleigh came first in the Under 40kg category which means that she is now the European Champion!

The Under 40Kg category includes competitors up to Year 8 and sometimes older. Each fight lasts up to two minutes, with those on the first day concentrating on punching and kicking (scored as in Boxing). Ashleigh had two fights and won both 10-0 within 50 seconds. The second day concentrates on grappling. Ashleigh won all five of her fights 10-0. The winner is decided on overall points scored.

Next year, the European championships are to be held in Switzerland but Ashleigh may need to move up a weight to Under 45kg. Although, Jujitsu is not currently an Olympic sport, it is like Judo but with punching and kicking so may be considered for future Olympic Games.

Congratulations to Ashleigh - our European Champion.
