If you are running RealPlayer version 10 you need to make sure that Real-Time Streaming Protocol is enabled. To enable RTSP click on Tools on the RealPlayer menu bar then select Preferences. In the popup window open the Content category and select Media Types. Click on the Advanced tab and in the Other Media section of the popup window tick the box alongside Real-Time Streaming Protocol.
RealPlayer crashes my PC whenever I press the pause button whilst playing an audio or video clip.
The solution to this problem is to update your audio and video drivers. Make sure that you have the latest version of Directx from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads Once installed, download the latest audio and video drivers for your hardware.
RealPlayer keeps trying to connect to the Internet even though I've disabled the startcentre. Do I need other Plugins or Codecs?
You will need at least the following Codecs - atrc3260.dll, cook3260.dll, tokr3260.dll. You can download these files by clicking here. Alternatively, you may wish to download all Plugins and Codecs by clicking the following.... Plugins Codecs
Note: The latest version of RealPlayer includes the necessary codecs and plugins. Download the latest version of RealPlayer from http://www.real.com/player/index.html. Alternatively, the Codecs and Plugins are included on the latest CD. They can be found in the \redistrib\real directory. Make sure that the Startcentre is disabled and RealPlayer is not running prior to installing the codecs and plugins. These files need to be installed on each client PC.
There have been a number of reported problems with RealPlayer 8. We have found that the following procedure, in most cases, will resolve RealPlayer issues. Please note that users running Windows 98 or above and high specification equipment are recommended to install RealOne.
We are running the CD via our intranet and when we access the video clips (play button) we get an error message " Requested file cannot be found. The link you followed maybe outdated or inaccurate", the file being filename.rm
The problem you experiencing is related to the embedded video only. When you use an http:// request for the video instead of a file: request...e.g. G:\path\filename, the .rpm files have to be edited to include the details of your own web/intranet server. You will find several files with a Rpm extension. These need to be edited in notepad. You will see file:filename.rm as the contents. This needs to be changed to http://ipaddress/path/filename.rm where the ipaddress is your server's ip address, and the path is the full path to the .rm file This problem does not occur with either media type when using a drive mapping....e.g. G:\ You may find it quicker to map a drive and access the course materials in that way.
When trying to access the audio or video over the Internet from our school, we get a RealPlayer error that says cannot connect to server or other similar messages and the audio/video will not work.
You are likely to be sitting behind a firewall that is preventing RealPlayer traffic from entering your network. You must enable certain ports on your network level firewall to allow RealMedia traffic. The current ports used by RealPlayer to connect to streaming media are: - TCP port 554 and 7070 for connecting to our RealServer and UDP ports 6970 - 7170 (inclusive) for incoming traffic to your network. For more detailed Firewall Setup information click here.
Internet Explorer crashes with a GDI error when I scroll down a web page that contains embedded audio and video.
We have had a number of reports detailing this problem which appears to be related to RealPlayer, IE5 and Windows 95. I have been in discussion with RealNetworks and they have advised me that this is a known issue.
At this time they have no work around or fix for the problem. That said, I have had some success with a number of schools by following the procedure below. Also, ensure that the latest graphics device drivers are installed.
- Uninstall RealPlayer
- Delete C:\Program Files\Real
- Delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real
- Reboot
- Reinstall RealPlayer
- Start RealPlayer, select VIEW from the menu bar, select PREFERENCES, select SETTINGS under StartCenter from the GENERAL tab, REMOVE the TICK from the Enable StartCenter option and Confirm by clicking YES. Now select the PERFORMANCE tab, REMOVE the tick from USE OPTIMIZED VIDEO DISPLAY and Close RealPlayer.
- Open codecs.exe and plugins.exe from the \redistrib\real directory on your GNVQ ICT or AVCE ICT CDROM and install accepting the default values. When prompted to overwrite, confirm.
- Finally reboot your machine and retry.
Alternatively, use the Popup version of RealPlayer, this does not appear to cause any such problem.
